The flooding situation in Hat Yai remains critical after hours of heavy rain since last night caused water from the U-Tapao Canal to overflow and flood several communities, particularly low-lying areas along the canal - the Tai Muang community, Ban Na Khuan, and the Rattana Uthit Lang community. Water levels have risen rapidly, with reports in some areas reaching the roofs of single-story homes. Residents have been forced to evacuate their belongings and pets from their homes in the middle of the night.
The most severely affected areas
Utapao Canal Community
Ban Na Khuan
Old Department of Public Works Community
Lower Ratana Uthit Community
Water levels in some areas are higher than 1.5-2 meters. Rescue workers and the municipality are already using flat-bottomed boats to evacuate many residents from the area. Rescue teams say the water is coming faster than expected, with some houses reaching the roof edge in less than an hour. Therefore, the first priority is to evacuate the elderly, bedridden patients, and young children. It is expected that the water level will not recede if rain falls again tonight. The public is urged to closely monitor announcements.
